The drive from Albuquerque takes all day. We got back about 12 hours after we started, having stopped twice for a bite to eat.<\/p>\n<p>The landscape changes, but not very quickly, and not in a very spectacular way. There were a few places we smelled petroleum. There were a few other places we smelled cows. Most of the way, we just drove and waited to get somewhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcraig.org\/austin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/gas-guzzler.jpg\" title=\"gas-guzzler.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mcraig.org\/austin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/gas-guzzler.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"gas-guzzler.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDuring the week, we totaled over 2500 miles, spending $403.95 in gas for the Ford Expedition we rented. It cost more to buy gas than to rent the car. We were reasonably comfortable, though.
